Have you been putting off important tasks? Is procrastination troubling you? Whether it is decluttering your closet or starting with a big project, at some point in our lives, we all need the motivation to do the tasks at hand. But unfortunately, we often fall victim to the demons of procrastination.

So, today, we thought of sharing a few tips that you can use to achieve your goals by overcoming procrastination. But before you continue reading, make a promise that you will read till the end. Okay? (**Giggles**)

  1. Make a Public Declaration of Your Decision

According to a study, declaring your goal to other people increases your chance of completing it by 8%. Preferably, share your goals with people whose opinions matter to you because it will only be then that you will try to keep up with their expectations of you.

  • Overcome Your Fear

Yes, you read that correctly! Fear of failure, fear of making mistakes, fear of judgment, you from doing important tasks, and achieving your goals. Believe it or not, fear is one of the biggest reasons for procrastinating. But once you challenge your fears, you will find yourself overcoming this toxic habit.

  • Make a To-Do List

Sometimes we procrastinate because we don’t know where to begin. Here is an easy solution. Make a to-do list and break down a big task into smaller tasks. That way, you will make it easily manageable. When you can complete individual tasks, you will feel confident and closer to your goal. All these baby steps will make your goal seem more attainable.

  • Eliminate Distractions

It’s hard to get work done when you are surrounded by distractions. The best way to eliminate distractions is to assign yourself a time during which you will focus all of your attention on completing your task. During this time, say no to social media, TV, music, or anything that you consider a distraction.

  • Reward Yourself

When you reward yourself for accomplishing a task, you are reinforcing the habit of getting things done. It takes a lot of effort to overcome procrastination, and a little treat to yourself for cooperating with your decision is no harm, or is it?

Here are a few suggestions for rewards – playing a video game, scrolling through social media, a walk, watching your favorite movie or TV show, and the list goes on.

Breaking the cycle of procrastination is not easy. But what if you recognize its onset? ‘I’ll do this later.’, ‘I don’t want to do it right now.’, ‘I have a lot of time to do this.’, thoughts like these mean you are about to procrastinate. Don’t give in to the urge. Instead, force yourself to begin the task at that very moment. Eventually, you will find it easier once you get started.

You can also find an accountability partner who will make sure that you stick to your goals and do not find excuses for not doing it.
